The purpose of the Earth Condominium goes beyond a proposal of structural reform to build a green and human economy, it also intends to care for the global natural systems through very concrete and integrated projects. We already have an example of success in the recycling area:

Portugal is the world leader in cork production and this activity has ensured the maintenance of one of the most important ecosystems in Europe: cork oak forests. So that cork stoppers may be a completely sustainable product, the Green Cork project intends to collect the used corks to recycle them and create new cork products. The profits obtained will be used to plant trees through the Common Forest project.

Seven reasons to use and recycle cork stoppers:

1 - Carbon Retention - The cork stopper retains approximately 3.5 grams of CO2; the prodution of every cork stopper, reflect 111 grams of CO2 retained in the forest where the cork is withdrawal.

2 - Barrier against Desertification - Cork stoppers represent 70% of the added value of cork, crucial for the maintenance of an ecosystem that is an effective barrier against environmental and social desertification.

3 - Biodiversity - The cork forest ecosystem, is the hotspot ecosystem of the Mediterranean, the richest in biodiversity in Europe.

4 - Recyclable - Cork stoppers are already being recycled to use in construction materials, car and aerospacial industries.

5 - Quality - The cork being a natural product that adapts to the environmental conditions, it ensures the best quality and longevity in wine conservation.

6 - Natural - for a natural product, a natural stopper.

7 - Celebration - the popping sound of a natural cork stopper is a symbol of quality and celebration.
